More Signs of Spring

Peewees in the woods, calling and answering each other. Robin scrounging for nest materials--taking time to gather up a bunch.

We've had chives in the scrambled eggs twice. My secret for the best scrambled eggs--sneak a fit bits of cream cheese into the eggs. It will melt and make them totally scrumptious.

I saw two hawks scoping out the woods. Don't know if they have romance or dinner on their minds.

My little sparrow friend came again and I identified him/her, and now I can't remember which kind it is. One of the more common ones that hangs about at the edge of the woods. Nice song, and saucy bird

Did a few garden chores today. The Solomon's seal is coming up, and the bleeding heart has blooms. One columbine is among the missing. I take plants dying very personally.

In the living room window, the Geraniums are growing and the Christmas cactus has one lone bloom. Go figure.

I've send out a few more email queries and need to get busy on more. And I have to give a speech on Burning Man. What to say? How can you describe an experience so unique?
Dunno.

A Feeding Flock of Robins

While running back and forth between the hospital and home, I haven't been inclined to write or even watch much TV, but I have, nonetheless, continued to take sustenance to my friends, the Highland Scottish Cattle.

A few days ago I noticed a humongous flock of robins in the pasture, and they continue to be there day after day. Must be something to eat. Maybe worms thrive in the cow patties, or some other delectable (in robin) goody is to be found.

Yesterday the cows ate the old Easter tulips. Speaking of tulips, the very bad rabbits are eating mine already. I am somewhat at a loss what to do. They did this last year, and totalled them. I won't plant anymore. The rest of the bulbs did not sprout up this spring. I'm still not sure about the muscari. Major bummer. Thanks a lot global warming.

I finished the novel, Oil, an excellent novel. Was prepared for more violence at the end. Suspect the movie went overboard showing the gore which was not described in any disgusting detail. The movie, of course, was There Will Be Blood.

Feeding Flock Descends

We had a huge flock of robins come into the woods between the house and the slough this morning, a so-called feeding flock that hangs out and eats together in the north when any sensible bird would have flown south for the winter.

The first time I noticed this phenomenum (sp?) I called the Audubon society and the nice folks there explained about these "feeding flocks."

I wish we had beaucoup bushes with nice berries for the birds. Maybe there are some around here, but I'm not sure where. The birds look fat and healthy, but it is only late December. There's never enough time to hustle round the kitchen and dig out the frozen cranberries, blueberries, raspberries and chop up some dried apricot and dig out the raisins and find a suitable feeding implement. Never enough time.

So we wish the birds good luck and good hunting. I love our little wren, so perky and singing so nicely, too. We have some wren houses, but I've never seen anyone entering or exiting.

I had a big long post which BLOGGER ate, and now you only get this.

Put some seed or suet out for our friends the birds.
