The South Sea

Rain! Sleet! Yuck! And no literary news, either.
Crocus still sitting like bumps on a log. I cleaned out a file today and found the recipes we used to take to an annual 4th of July houseparty in East Hampton. Our friend and host is no longer among us, and I sadly tossed the maps, guides to where to buy produce, etc., but I kept the recipes I used to schlep along because the host and hostess didn't really cook (he made a mean key lime pie, however), and my friend and I would cook for all eight of us. One of the drinks that Significant Other (who does not cook but does spectacular beverages) used to mix is the
South Sea

2 ounces of Rum, Mount Gay Barbados if available
3/4 ounce Curacao or Triple Sec
3/4 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
Shake all ingrdients with cracked ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnice with a lime squeeze.

Under no circumstances use anything but fresh limes.

Food hint: with all the vegetarian cooking this week, we had a tofu stir fry. This is actually pretty good, and the tofu can be made moderately crispy by coating it with cornstarch before cooking. Bet you didn't know that. Tonight for the leftovers, I threw in a handful of cashews and a few shakes of hot oil. Very tasty.

It is so bleeding cold out that the spring peepers have shut up.
