That story really sticks in my mind and certain parts of it still move me to tears today.Helena Fairfaxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00435930085468105031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10665541.post-46307847059616767702016-07-23T23:37:25.582-07:002016-07-23T23:37:25.582-07:00I agree. But I particularly agree with your saying that personal knowledge (e.g., of Boston) leads to vivid, and therefore memorable writing.Dr Bob Richhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13905005432340711608noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10665541.post-32377952808285459172016-07-23T21:53:39.552-07:002016-07-23T21:53:39.552-07:00Yes, voice is so important. When I taught writing ...Yes, voice is so important. When I taught writing and students asked me what voice was, I asked them to think of their favorite guitarist or drummer. The likes of Clapton or Hendrix cannot be mistaken, nor drummers like Ginger Baker or Sandy Nelson. You'll hear a music track and you'll know it's them, and that's the same with voice, you'll recognize the author as soon as you start reading. I've read books where, if they didn't add "So-and-So said" you would have no idea who was speaking because everybody sounds the same.
